So Far, So Good: Our TOMS Experience Thus Far

Yo! Chris and Amy here for a Campus takeover of the Intern blog this week. Yes, we are the special guests Abby alluded to and we’re happy to take the reigns. Here goes…

Chris: I’m breaking from my Midwest roots and spending the summer out West, working with the TOMS Campus Programs team. I am glad that I took the leap and landed here, and I don’t think that I have ever been surrounded by a culture that makes me feel so at home.

Amy: I’m Amy, the other half of the Campus Programs intern duo. As Campus Programs interns, we are lucky enough to hear from and support students who are out to change the world. It is so refreshing to constantly be reminded that there are people out there who care so much for others.

Chris: While I have loved working at HQ and could talk about this place for hours, I can’t forget to blog about Cali living. I’m a Kansas boy; there’s no getting around it, and California is not what I expected! Why I thought the entire city would be like a five-star resort on a beach beats me; but I’ve managed to get over my expectations and have had a blast in the real-life Los Angeles.

Amy: With so little time and so many things to do, we are determined to take advantage of every second we have left in California. We plan to learn how to surf, play beach volleyball, and have night-time bonfires. If you’ll be at Billabong’s “Design for Humanity” benefit event - a massive fashion-music-art block party featuring some our favorite musicians, The Lumineers and Imagine Dragons – we’ll be there, too.

Chris: So far on our intern adventures we have hiked at Solstice Canyon and in Hollywood; attended concerts and music festivals; and hit up Venice beach and Santa Monica Pier (how many times do we have to go before we’re considered regulars?). We’ve gone to Six Flags Magic Mountain, and the CBS studios for the 4th of July. Our Intern class is large, but we are a tight-knit family that travels with a wolf pack mentality. We even set up a cleverly named potluck we called “Noms for TOMS”.

Amy: I’ve been exposed to unique work culture that has allowed me to further develop my passion in marketing, driven by helping others in need. Being part of the TOMS Summer 2012 intern family is more than what I had expected, and I look forward to work every day. We’ve has some great times so far and it has only gotten better!

Chris: The TOMS experience has been so much more than interning at a cool company with an incredible One for One movement… it’s about developing both professionally and personally. It’s about learning that there are so many other people out there who are passionate about social change and want to help make a difference.

So glad we got the chance to step in, but it’s back to Abby next week. See ya!
