Hey all!

My name is Gabi and I am a student at Florida International University. Earlier this summer, I hosted my very own TOMS Video Screening here in Miami. It was one of the best experiences in my life and I couldn’t be prouder to share the story with everyone in the TOMS Campus Programs Network.

I had so much support from my family, friends, and community while planning the event. The TOMS Campus Team was also a big help in providing ideas and resources. I was able to host the event in coalition with a very popular event in Miami that takes place on the last Friday of every month - Viernes Culturales. This ongoing event takes place in one of the most historical areas in all of Miami and is known to bring a great crowd of people interested in the arts.

I contacted Futurama Gallery, an art gallery near my campus, to inquire about hosting the event there. They were willing to help me share the TOMS story with our community. With the help of the gallery staff, I was able to screen a couple of the TOMS videos during my event. I also invited some local food trucks and a natural juice stand – both were a big hit with attendees!

As far as promoting the event, I used all of the resources in my community I could think of! I created a yelp ad and flyers. I went to major areas around Miami to hand the flyers out and post them around. I was also able to get ahold of the pubic relations and marketing manager for the Miami New Times, a major newspaper in Miami. I created an ad for the electronic version of the paper that was shared with their online supporters. It was all such a great learning experience!

For those of you thinking about hosting a TOMS Campus event of any kind, I truly do encourage you to do so! Often, we are told we can do anything but we tend to stop ourselves because of the small obstacles that we must go through along the way. Putting together an event can be a lot of effort but it is definitely worth it! I was so lucky to have so much support for my Viernes Culturales event and will definitely be planning another one soon!
