Iconic graphic artist John Van Hamersveld Lends TOMS his perspective for World Sight Day

In light of World Sight Day on 10/11/12, we’re making a point to have and to share perspective

It starts with a simple eye chart. A symbol of the transformative effects a pair of glasses, medical treatment or sight-saving surgery can have on a person’s life, the eye chart is central to how we help give sight with TOMS Eyewear.

Creativity then kicks in. Using that as a symbol for vision, we found an awesome way to lend unique perspective to the classic eye chart. And we have a legendary graphic artist on our side reinterpreting the eye chart and making ART.

From black block letters on an off-white screen, John Van Hamersveld - the guy who designed the “Endless Summer” poster, among tons of other graphics you may recognize - reinterpreted it and lent us all his perspective.

John’s designed more than 300 album covers for musician like the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Blondie, Kiss, Public Image, and the list goes on… Recently, he has had exhibitions at Shepard Fairey’s Subliminal Projects Gallery and inclusion in LACMA’s signature exhibition, Pacific Standard Time.

Needless to say, we’re unendingly excited to have John among the ranks of those who are joining TOMS to recognize and honor World Sight Day 2012. He’s helping us gain perspective, because thats such a huge part of what World Sight Day is all about. We have been - and will most definitely continue - sharing stories of those who have received the gift of sight because of the collaboration between TOMS Giving Partners, TOMS Eyewear and you.
