Start Something that Matters, a book by TOMS Chief Shoe Giver, Blake Mycoskie, challenges readers to make a positive change in the world and start a project that matters to them. Since the book hit print in 2011, we’ve seen an awesome influx of motivated indivduals who’ve been inspired to start something that matters to them, founding projects that are making a difference to the world or to other likeminded people.

Here’s a story of one of those passionate people, who took her post-grad internship knowledge and created a community for students…

Since we laid down roots in Venice, TOMS has looked to Interns as an essential part of who we are as a brand and movement. They’ve been integral members of the TOMS family, for the innovative ideas they’ve brought to the table, and, in more cases than we can count on two hands, for the loyalty they’ve shown in sticking around all these years. We feel strongly that whether you are in college or a recent grad, internships are one of the most important steps you can take in getting your foot in the door at a company or organization.

With that idea in mind, Lauren Berger built a business. After graduating college, Lauren realized the lack of resources available to students looking for internships, a discovery that inspired her  to launch InternQueen.com as a place for students to find internships and receive advice for the future.

“I offer not only a great database of internships and tons of fresh content,” Lauren explains. “But I’m a real person – a face behind the brand – and I can personally relate to what these students are going through.”

And if you’re wondering what makes her the expert on intern experiences, it turns out she knows a thing or two. While still in college, Lauren successfully completed 15 internships! Now, she’s helping others find the route to a career that matters.

With InternQueen.com, Lauren helps bridge the gap between companies and orgs looking for talented folks and talented folks looking for companies that suit their skills and wants. Plus, the site provides applicants with tips on how to improve resumes and interview skills.
