image Start Something that Matters, a book by TOMS Chief Shoe Giver, Blake Mycoskie, challenges readers to make a positive change in the world and start a project that matters to them. Sometimes, we even come across stories of change from our very own family members. After interning at TOMS almost two years ago, Molly Beckert went on to start her own organization, Echoing Good.

Molly began Echoing Good after studying abroad in Uganda. Her first project was working with the Gulu community helping them set up a school farm to support a lunch program. The program was such a success that by the end of the year they increased the school’s population by 50% and doubled the size of the farm. Molly then realized that this model could help communities all over the world. She began Echoing Good, an organization that helps communities bring their ideas to life. Echoing Good is a non-profit that supports community led small-scale projects by setting up the projects and providing funds. Echoing Good is now feeding over 1400 children every day in Uganda and have recently expanded to Central America.

For our Spring campaign, we reached out to a few inspiring individuals to join us on our Giving trip to Cambodia. Molly was among those to travel with us. Our team journeyed to Cambodia to give shoes and help restore sight along with TOMS Giving Partners, SEVA and Cambodian Children’s Fund.

Molly was incredibly inspired by the work the TOMS Giving Partners do. “CCF and SEVA are on the front lines in the fight against poverty and preventable blindness in Cambodia and they are making a huge impact in the communities where they work. As someone who is involved in humanitarian work, I was inspired by both organizations’ ability to look at the community and the challenges they face from every single angle.”

Molly told us she left Cambodia with a renewed sense of self and more motivation to expand Echoing Good.

When asked to share advice to those looking to start a project that matters to them, Molly left us with these parting words, “One thing I always tell people is to remember the power they have to make a difference. The world faces some enormous challenges but we should let the knowledge of what needs to be done be motivating rather than overwhelming. Every single act of good, big or small means something and it all adds up.”
