Together we ball

From the TOMS E-mail circuit to your screen: a recent virtual pep talk + congratulations for the official TOMS softball team, by Matt, in the Marketing department at HQ.
Hi, Team TOMS —
Did anyone see the highlights of our game on Sportscenter last night? No?! Well in case you missed it, I have the recap:
Last night an epic battle was waged at the Venice Softball Field between Team TOMS and the [unnamed other company] Ballers. With the assistance of a few free agents from the waiver wire, TOMS was able to field a team.
The first inning came and went for Team TOMS as they managed to go down in order. The Ballers started off quick, but due to some excellent glove work by Sevag [on the Design team], were limited to only two runs. Team TOMS, not to be outdone, came back with two runs of their own before being sent back onto the field. TOMS’ defense showed again in the 2nd as they held the Ballers to no runs. Despite the opportunity to take the lead TOMS was unable to get their bats moving.
The Ballers managed to take the lead in the 3rd by scoring two more runs, but TOMS wouldn’t go down without a fight. Due up in the 4th was Lauren [on the Retail team]; she strapped on her hitting shoes. With the bases empty, and with a clear path to run, Lauren hit a LAZER to center field. In fact, she hit the ball so hard it was still rolling by the time she rounded 2nd. With some encouragement, Lauren proved she “wanted it” and broke for home, completing her first home run of the season!
Some lesser luck followed when the Ballers scored 4 runs, but Caroline delivered an inspirational speech -> Team TOMS put on their rally caps (aka inside-out beanies), and came alive. Fast forward a bit, and the team stood at a crossroads: at the end, they could be heroes or zeroes.
Team TOMS managed to get two quick outs, before the third and final out, which we’ll call the PLAY OF THE SEASON! A ball was tipped in the direction of shortstop Caleb [on the Community/Grassroots team]. Able to change directions, Caleb snatched up the ball and threw a rocket over to the outstretched glove of 1st baseman Nicole [on the HR team], barely in time to beat the runner. Ball game! Team TOMS 10 - Ballers 8!
AWESOME game everyone. Big thanks to Free Agents Sevag, Caleb, Rich, and Reva (I think you’re officially on the team now, by the way) for helping us out.
- Matt
