Malita’s Squint Surgery

When this story began, eleven-year-old Malita’s eyes did not align, causing them to focus on different objects and for her brain to receive two different messages.

Eventually, her brain shut down the messages from one of her eyes so that she could no longer see out of it. As a result, Malita lost much of her depth perception and she struggled in school. She had a hard time drawing, one of her favorite things to do.

Because someone purchased a pair of TOMS Eyewear, Seva Foundation, a TOMS Sight Giving Partner, restored Malita’s vision. Their staff provided Malita with surgery for squint, the condition causing the misalignment of her eyes.

A few weeks later when she returned to the Seva-supported clinic for her check up, Malita was so happy and exclaimed: “I can see everything now!”
