Meet Children International’s Dr. Contreras

While in Guatemala visiting with TOMS Giving Partner Children International, we had the opportunity to sit down with one of the local doctors serving CI’s community center. As part of CI’s holistic programming for children and their communities, the organization has an established medical facility that provides medical and dental check-ups to children in need. Read more from Dr. Contreras…  What was your life like growing up? Did you grow up in the local community? My childhood was in a home with both parents and a younger brother. The Games We Brought Back from Guatemala

Giving is hard work, but it’s also a lot of fun. On our recent trip to Guatemala, the children at the community center — run by TOMS Giving Partner Children International — were eager to show us some of their favorite games. Despite the language barrier, the games served as a great icebreaker (along with big smiles and laughs!) and made our day with the children especially fun. Our favorite game was called, quite simply, “Parachutes!” Yulissa, a Children International Program Assistant in Guatemala, explained that the goal of the game is to encourage teamwork and coordination to not let…

Discover TOMS

TOMS was born from a desire to discover. What started as an adventure in Argentina has become a journey that has taken us to over sixty countries worldwide. Earlier this year, TOMS traveled to Guatemala, where we now give shoes, vision and water. Looking at the photos from our trip, you’ll see TOMS employees like Joanna – who designs our retail store interiors – exploring fascinating locations, like the natural limestone bridge at Semuc Champey. You’ll see kids playing in Giving Shoes that they received through programs run by our Giving Partner Children International. And you’ll see Guatemala, a beautiful…

Last spring, a TOMS team of employees headed into the field to explore, adventure and most of all, learn about the incredible work our Giving Partners in shoes, sight and water are doing every day to help improve communities and the lives of people who live in them. Today, we’d like for you to meet Children International, a Shoe Giving Partner in Guatemala. Children International began working in Guatemala in 1979. They currently serve the needs of nearly 340,000 impoverished children and youth worldwide, including more than 30,000 in…

Adventure Awaits

TOMS was founded on the spirit of adventure and discovery. In 2006, Founder Blake Mycoskie traveled to Argentina to learn about the culture and the people. He met a group of kids that forever changed his life, and many of ours. This season, we chose to celebrate the spirit of discovery and adventure in Guatemala. With it’s rugged topography and rich culture, Guatemala is not only a place of wonder and natural beauty, but also a place where we give in all three capacities: shoes, sight, and water. Taking us on our journey are three TOMS employees: Chad from our…
