Profiles in One for One: Giuli
Giving new TOMS with Buckner International in Peru means distributing shoes through holistic community development programs including health and family services and education. To be sure health education “sticks,” Buckner’s Giuli uses art and drama workshops to teach children the importance of basic hygiene like hand-washing, drinking clean water and wearing shoes to help preserve their health.

TOMS Shoe Giving Partner: Buckner International
Early in 2012, a TOMS team traveled to Central and South America: first to visit Sight Giving Partner Visualiza to assist in restoring vision to patients at an eye clinic outside of Guatemala City, followed by an excursion with Buckner International to help give shoes to Peruvian kids in two remote villages.
Today, we introduce you to TOMS Shoe Giving Partner Buckner International, a Shoe Giving Partner you’ll find featured in our Fall 2012 catalog.
Buckner International seeks to improve the lives of vulnerable children and their families by providing family, empowerment and community programs in 19 countries, and health and humanitarian aid support in almost 70. Working in Peru since 2005, Buckner aims to create real change by building trust in communities, and through educating children and their families with the knowledge and resources to create lasting change.
“Our approach is to treat both the symptoms and root causes of problems through education, clean water, health services, poverty alleviation and more,” Claudia, Buckner Peru’s Executive Director, shared.
TOMS Shoes are a small but important part of Buckner’s work in communities. Buckner provides new shoes in combination with health education, medication and other services. Claudia explains, “TOMS helps complete our circle of healthy habits, it’s exciting!”
